The Butlers Wharf Chop House

I’ve been meaning to write about a lovely girlie lunch I enjoyed one Saturday about a month ago (goodness has it really been that long?). The occasion was my future Sister-in-law’s hen day and the location was The Butlers Wharf Chop House, fabulously situated on the river right by Tower Bridge.
I can’t think of many better ways of spending a weekend afternoon than taking a long, leisurely lunch with good company, good food and good wine. And this was the perfect location.

The restaurant is very English in style, from the classic dishes to the attentive waiting staff in their impeccable uniforms. The dishes on the appealing menu are traditional and simple but they are made with high quality ingredients and are stylishly served. And they certainly don’t disappoint on taste. I enjoyed a tankard of prawns, smaller than you would expect, but cleverly served with their own little glass jar of mayonnaise, followed by delicious wild boar with a cranberry sauce. But the highlight of my meal, without a doubt, was the pudding - my all time favourite; Sticky Toffee Pudding. I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had. Moist sponge surrounded by a moat of creamy, buttery toffee sauce, it was nothing short of divine.

We all went to this restaurant for my sons graduation meal.
It was lovely and with great views.
The food tasted and looked wonderful. The portions were a little small for us though!
Sounds like a delightful place. We enjoyed some great Sticky Toffee Pudding when we were in Scotland a few years back.
It is a great dessert. :)

Lovely view and I liked the scraped clean plate. You even resisted swiping your finger across it afterwards, you must have been in refined company! Lovely stuff!
Thanks Julia, I might check it out next time I am down there. I have a thing for Tower Bridge too (yes, really) so thanks for the pic. I have so many pictures of that bridge! I once caught it opening and was unreasonably excited much to the embarrassment of everyone else. I'm really drooling over the wild boar I have to say. It looks yum.
That's near to where I live. Never been there but Le Pont de la Tour. It looks pretty good hey!
You have a verry nice blog
Fab photos, I especially like the last one. Is that a lick mark I can see?
Margaret - what a lovely occasion
Sharona - it is a great dessert, one I've never made actually, I think I should!
Holler - ahem, I couldn't resist and did swipe my finger (oh the shame, I never do that!)!
Helen - :-) it is a lovely bridge and I can totally understand your excitement at seeing it open!
mycookinghut - oh if you live nearby you should definately check it out, I'd be there a lot if I lived near it.
Sorina - thank you so much!
Helen - I did manage to resist licking the plate but just had to swipe my finger! It was just toooo good. :-)
The sticky toffee looks perfect - so often the ratio of pudding to sauce is all wrong and you are left with dry spongs and no more sauce. I'd certainly have licked the plate clean!
Like you, I've never made the puds myself so must give them a try.
