In the Bag: Cooking the Month of June - The Round up

Last month's bag was quite a challenge with its contents of mint and watermelon. But these bloggers rose to it with some great dishes:

We also had a suggestion for a cocktail from AbbieAsadi on Twitter: "Hi Julia. My suggestion for the monthly ingredients: watermelon, mint and vodka for cocktails, maybe a dash of sugar syrup or classic sorbet." I love the sound of watermelon, mint and vodka cocktails, anyone fancy giving it a go?

Watermelon cocktails are amazing! I had one when I was in Australia, but I'm struggling to find the bars menu/website as it was in a tiny tiny place in QLD. Definately worth experimenting with though - I had the same cocktail 2 nights running!

It was a challenge but what a terrific combination! Great suggestion Julia!

You can get unpleasant pre-mixed watermelon vodka cocktails, but an undoubtedly more fun option would be the Jamie Oliver watermelon, where you cut a hole in the skin of a whole fruit, put a funnel in, and gradually decant vodka in over the course of a day or two to allow the flesh to soak up the spirit. I'm sure you could infuse a bottle of vodka with some fresh mint leaves for a few days beforehand for the full effect! Wish I'd entered now...d'oh!

I was thinking about some kind of granita or granissat, but I only saw the challenge a couple of days ago and haven't had any free time this week.

Watermelon and mint granita sounds very summery and refreshing to me though.

Don't know if you remember me, had commented on some post of yours a while back, love your blog as always. You have inspired me to start my own cooking blog, though it's NOTHING compared to yours!
Am blogrolling you, hope that's okay. :)

Very cool desserts! Very cool blog. The watermelon pic was great. We have done a similar variation here in Texas for years, it involves pulling a plug from a whole watermelon, and dripping in a bottle of vodka or other clear liquor, and then Icing the whole thing down!
